Fiesta Hispana: Dance station - Kim will be using the stage in the auditorium
Obtain skirts from administration building the week of / day of so the students can wear them as they learn the dances. Wash and return them afterwards (or have a volunteer do this)
2011 OUTCOME:
Kim's cumbia dancers (during entertainment) and the dancers in the auditorium (during Hispanic stations)
The night of the fiesta, Kim will use the skirts to practice prior to start and leave them on stage for the dance station. After stations are finished,
Stephanie will leave them on stage for the cumbia dancers.
Stephanie will collect skirts, wash them and return them to administration after fiesta.
We will not use the sombreros.
2. You will need music and sound system. Check with Jeff Hayes, Central Auditorium Coordinator to find out what’s available to use for sound system / cd player, etc923-5571, ext. 6. Coordinate this with Kim, the entertainment chair since they will be using the sound system too.
2011 OUTCOME:
Manny and Stephanie met with Jeff Hayes to talk about sound and light capabilities. Jeff said he will be running the sound and lights himself.
The lights will be fully on all through the evening.
There will be a CD player on the stage for the dance station during the Hispanic stations time.
Any other music that needs to be run through the auditorium-wide sound system should be in the form of CDs.
Microphones will be on stage all night.
3. You can teach the dances, and / or have others help. Ideas: - Carla - Zumba instructor. She led it in 2009 with Martha. Talk to Martha about how Carla did. If you want to contact Carla , get info from Jenn (Carla is a parent of a Chestnut Hill student)

2011OUTCOME:
Carla Budinsky (cbudinsky@dow.com) and Jeanenne Heye (jeanenne.heye@yahoo.com, 815-274-4911) will create 3 dances (1 salsa, 1 cumbia, 1 merengue) that
will be repeated as the students are flowing in and out of the auditorium. They are both instructors at the Midland Community Center.
Carla and Jeanenne will arrive to the auditorium at 6:00pm.
All the music they use is on CD's they are bringing.
During the Hispanic stations, Stephanie will select 15-20 5th grade students to have them come back up to dance the merengue dance during the
entertainment portion of the evening.
During the entertainment portion, Stephanie, Carla, Jeanenne and the 15-20 preselected students will come back up on stage. Stephanie will give a
basic history of the merengue and then all will do ONLY the merengue dance again (without girls in skirts).
4 You’ll want parent / high school volunteers to help get the skirts on / off the girls, to be there to help with the dance moves, and to help with crowd control. Communicate with parent and high school volunteers by email to let them know what they will be doing (elementary Spanish teachers will send forms that are returned by parents and then Ester, volunteer coordinator, will give you names/emails of high school students)

There are two parent volunteers that are going to be at the auditorium at 6:15pm until 8:45pm. They will help put on/off the skirts during the dance station.

2012 UPDATE: Kim McMahan is in charge of the dancing portion in the Central auditorium from 6:30-7:45. Kim has the skirts, but will not be using them for zumba demonstrations. They are reserved for cumbia entertainment. Jeanenne Heye (Community Center Zumba Instructor) will be arriving at 6:00 to the Central auditorium. She will be teaching several different styles of latin dance through zumba, and will perform one piece with selected student volunteers during the entertainment. Jeff Hayes will have a CD player onstage for use during the zumba portion. Kim McMahan will help with crowd control and choosing of zumba participants for entertainment, and will organize parent volunteers (Sonal Markan and Carrie Florey from Adams, and whoever else has volunteered).
